In almost every neighborhood in Houston; in places like Guatemala, New York, Canada, and Colorado; and in denominations like the Reformed Church in America, Faithwalking is making an impact on local communities by changing hearts of folks just like you.

I didn’t come to be an active Christian with a bold peace witness and reputation for seeking justice by studying in the Bible that I needed to do those things. I already knew I needed to do those things. I am becoming those things because I have studied my fear. I’ve studied it long enough to understand what it is trying to teach me, studied it deeply enough that I don’t flinch at its darkness, and studied it with others who have courageously spoken truth into my life while surrounding me with unexpected grace.

The path of full personhood and healthy spirituality is the path of radically following Jesus in daily life. He is an amazing spiritual detective, the great preacher of peace sent by God in the exact same way we have been sent. To fully understand how Jesus was sent, we need to know the promises he came to fulfill, and God’s vision for the messianic age. In the next section we’ll look at the Hebrew Bible’s clear and compelling mental model of who and how God is in our world: the concept of shalom.
